The Arts Commission is postponing all events scheduled until April 18th, or until we are advised by the Health Department and our partner organizations that regular programming can be safely resumed. We encourage all our friends to stay safe and careful.

March 28th is the day. Stuart Powell Ford is the place. 300 test drivers is the goal to earn the Arts Commission $6,000! Stuart Powell Ford and the Ford Corporation will donate $20 to the Arts Commission for every test driver between 9:00 and 3:30. Come on out and take a spin in a beautiful Ford. Scarlet Cup production of RED has a new home!
Scarlet Cup Theater makes sure the show will go on – with a little help from the Advocate Messenger and Doug Gooch! When the theater received word that the planned venue would not be available just three weeks before opening night, they jumped into action and found a great new location. The play will be staged in the old newsroom of the Advocate Messenger. Get your tickets at danvillearts.org under the TICKET tab for this outstanding theater experience featuring Patrick Kagan-Moore as Mark Rothko and Kolton Winfield as Ken. Enjoy a NEW curtain time of 7:00 for the evening performances and 3:00, as usual, for Sundays.
Special theme dinners will be offered by Mary Robin Spoonamore at Barleycorns or stop by after the show for dessert and special cocktails. Reservations for dinner may be made directly with Barleycorns.
Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society Program Coming to Danville
Do you have a special quilt made in Kentucky or owned by a Kentucky resident? Was your quilt made before 1980? Then you should really consider participating in the Kentucky Quilt Registry Program. You will have a perfect opportunity the weekend of March 27th and 28th at the Boyle County Public Library when the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society will be in town to document qualified quilts.
Individuals wishing to have quilts documented are encouraged to make reservations. Reservations will be open beginning Feb. 17th at the Boyle County Extension Office. There is no charge to have quilts documented, but there is a limit of two quilts per person.
The weekend will also include a free presentation by Vickie Coleman on March 26th at 6:30 at the Library. Vickie will explain the differences and similarities between documentation, assessment and judging of vintage and antique quilts. The evening is open to the public and does not require advance reservations.
Individuals interested in volunteering for the registry event may also register at the Boyle County Extension Office beginning Feb. 17th. There are several jobs for volunteers which do not require extensive knowledge of quilts. Training will be provided.
This program is sponsored by the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society, the Boyle County Extension Office, the Heart of Danville and the Arts Commission of Danville/Boyle County.
Scarlet Cup Theater presents comedy “Bad Dates”
Scarlet Cup Theater has hit the mark again with a venue and play pairing which is sure to entertain and fascinate audiences. The play is Bad Dates , a one woman comedy, and the venue is the historic Clemens Caldwell house on the Old Harrodsburg Road (Maple Avenue). The play is set in a New York apartment and the charming architecture of the Clemens Caldwell house fits the bill perfectly.
The show opens Oct. 31st and will run Nov. 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 and 10. Tickets will be available on the Arts Commission web site beginning Oct. 1st. Opening night tickets will include a reception hosted by the Scarlet Cup Theater board members in the elegant dining room of the house.
Guests will be welcomed before the show into the formal living room and then will be seated in the stunning foyer for the action. Scarlet Cup is grateful to Dr. John and Jane Pappas, the new owners of the home, who have donated the home and grounds for this event.
Rob Caldwell, a relative of the original owners of the home, will present a history of the house at the Boyle County Public Library on Oct. 27th at 3:00. The public is welcome to attend this free program.
Gathering Artists Spring Exhibit
Gallery Hop Returns – June 6, 5:30 – 8:00
The Arts Commission will once again brighten up downtown Danville with the Gallery Hop the evening before the Great American Brass Band Festival. The annual event will feature an expanded number of venues, artists and food. Follow Arts Commission on Facebook for hints about surprise locations, artists and special displays. Women Writers 2019 – Technology Enhances Creativity and Communication
Join four local women who will give practical and creative advice on enhancing and improving your creative and communications skills regardless of whether you are a business person, an educator, an artist or want to explore tools to express yourself using various forms of technology.
The Heritage Business and Professional Women, the Arts Commission, the Boyle County Public Library and Centre College have joined forces to bring this evening to the community on April 22 at the Boyle County Public Library.
The evening will begin with refreshments at 5:30 and the program will start at 6:00. There will be plenty opportunity to interact with the presenters and the other attendees. The program is free to all thanks to a generous grant from the Betty Hinz Fund of the Kentucky Business and Professional Women’s Foundation.
Topics will include working collaboratively from remote locations, building your own website, blogging, podcasting, branding and preparing written material for submission to potential publishers.
