Liz Orndorff named 2020 Arts Citizen of the Year
Local playwright, Liz Orndorff, was named 2020 Arts Citizen of the Year by the Arts Commission Board. The announcement was made at the December Danville City Commission meeting and formally presented at the January Commission meeting. Orndorff is an accomplished writer with multiple plays produced locally and regionally. She has received several honors and been selected to attend prestigious writers’ programs.
Orndorff represented Danville in Carrickfergus as the first Sister Cities exchange artist. In addition, she is the principal founder and president of Scarlet Cup Theater, a successful site – specific theater producing thought provoking American and European plays.
Orndorff has collaborated with the Arts Commission and the Agency for Substance Abuse Policy to write and direct three plays/musicals for middle and high school students which creatively address issues facing children today.
The annual award, selected and presented by the Arts Commission, recognizes individuals who have had an impact on the community through the advancement, support and use of the arts over their careers.
Gallery Hop 2021 Hits Downtown Danville
Bruce Richardson of Elmwood Inn Fine Teas will welcome Hoppers from 5:30 – 8:00, June 11th.
Can’t Say Enough About It –
Gallery Hop 2021 has something for everyone!
When you have a lot to celebrate, you should! On June 11th the downtown will be hopping up and down and around the corners. The best strategy would be to put a chair in the car (or sling it over your shoulder), park in the area, make sure you have this newsletter with you, then eat, shop, and visit, until 8:00 when the chair will be needed for the Gallery Hop After Hours Concert with Power Play.
This newsletter can serve as your guide to locating artists and activities. Members of the Arts Commission Board will be available at the corner of Main and 3rd to assist you and update you of any changes to the guide. A table with simple and fun children’s activities will also be located in front of the Hub Coffee House.
I know where I will be on June 11th and I look forward to seeing you somewhere around town as we usher in the Great American Brass Band Festival in style. Enjoy shopping and mingling responsibly and we will all have a great evening!
Thanks to Louisville Gas &Electric and Kentucky Utilities Foundation for their support of the Gallery Hop. We appreciate the partnership with the Brass Band Festival staff and volunteers and the City of Danville in making this event go off without a hitch.

“Gallery Hop 2020” not lost – just different
The Arts Commission’s Brass Band Gallery Hop is going virtual – but that’s just the announcement. All your favorite shops and locations are still supporting the arts and you can too, by browsing safely for days to come. We will be featuring on Facebook and the events calendar of this website, the shops you know and love, as well as businesses and organizations which support local art through collecting and displaying works in their locations. So, like, follow and share us on Facebook and check out what makes Danville and Boyle County a special place for art and artists. The postings will include links or information on how to contact the locations for any specials and up-to-date opening and closing details.
The Arts Commission thanks LGE&KU for support of the 2020 Gallery Hop.
A pretty day in the Park
Historic Constitution Square is the perfect shady spot for a surprise summer concert by the local dulcimer group.
Arts Commission launches YouTube channel
There is so much to see and learn in and around Danville. The Arts Commission has launched a YouTube channel to make art available and accessible whenever you need a good dose of creativity and some information.
To access the channel go to YouTube and search for danvillearts. It’s just that easy. You will find original videos as well as recordings of workshops sponsored by, and for, the Arts Commission.
Stay tuned as the year progresses, meet some new friends and share some great lessons.
Meet Michelle – Future Artist
Meet Michelle.
The Arts Commission couldn’t have in-person camp this summer, so we put camp in boxes for Michelle and her mom and five other families in their neighborhood.
The whole bunch will be creating a “museum” on the sidewalks and porches to show off their work.
Thanks, David Walden and other community friends for being our partners at “camp” in the crazy summer of 2020.
