Local playwright, Liz Orndorff, was named 2020 Arts Citizen of the Year by the Arts Commission Board. The announcement was made at the December Danville City Commission meeting and formally presented at the January Commission meeting. Orndorff is an accomplished writer with multiple plays produced locally and regionally. She has received several honors and been selected to attend prestigious writers’ programs.
Orndorff represented Danville in Carrickfergus as the first Sister Cities exchange artist. In addition, she is the principal founder and president of Scarlet Cup Theater, a successful site – specific theater producing thought provoking American and European plays.
Orndorff has collaborated with the Arts Commission and the Agency for Substance Abuse Policy to write and direct three plays/musicals for middle and high school students which creatively address issues facing children today.
The annual award, selected and presented by the Arts Commission, recognizes individuals who have had an impact on the community through the advancement, support and use of the arts over their careers.
